This Throwback Of Sam Hill Will Bring Back Good Memories

Mountain biking in its early days was so much weirder (in a good way) than it is today. Contests were wild and off the wall with "extreme" stunts and funny courses that looked like something out of a Y2K-era video game.

Nowadays riding and contests are notably better and run far more professionally, but that doesn't mean we can't look back on the days of yore with rose-tinted lenses.

Watch this classic clip of the legend Sam Hill at Red Bull Jindabyne in 2003.

Sam Hill was 17 years old in this video and was the World Junior champion downhill racer at the time of the event.

Another notable "up and comer" who competed in this was Thomas Vanderham. Back then he was 18 and still a few years from being the legendary statesman of downhill and freeride that we know him as today.

Another little tidbit of history, this event was held in Jindabyne, NSW, Australia during a bout of nasty bushfires that claimed over 400 homes in the Canberra area during the event.

Although we may never see another iteration of this particular event, Red Bull Hardline added a second stop in Tasmania. Australia will be back to having a world-class freeride event come mid-February.
