Texas Cat Trying to Ice Skate on Frozen Pool Gives Total Winter Vibes

Winter is definitely here, and many states (like mine here in Georgia) are experiencing below average temps causing ice and freezing conditions that a lot of us aren't used to. The same thing is happening in Texas, and ABC News shared a video on Tuesday, January 23rd of one cat taking advantage of his family's frozen pool in the backyard.

The video starts with the cat noticing that there's something different about the pool - there's a layer of ice across the top of the water. The cat decides to check it out, and what happens next is just too cute...he decides to try his paws at ice skating!

Isn't the cat's reaction the best? He got the zoomies on top of the ice and had a grand old time playing around! I wonder how long he stayed out there and if he went back for more! Did anybody else notice that it's an orange cat? So fitting! @ABC News commenters got a kick out of the video too. @Leah Malone shared, "I watched this 3 times before realizing he is chasing his shadow!" I'll admit that I didn't realize it until she said that! @I'm the Mom pointed out, "Cat's gonna be real confused when it warms up!!! LOL!"

Pet Safety in Cold Weather

Texas isn't used to freezing weather the way that other places are. If you're not used to cold weather, snow, and ice, your pets aren't either. They may want to be outside exploring a world they've never seen, so keep them safe while they do. Consider getting them some booties to help keep their paws warm. If you like dressing your pet up, this is the perfect chance to do it! Put a sweater or jacket on them to help keep the warm. Monitor what they're doing, and if it looks like they are having issues dealing with the temps, bring them in. Dogs and cats have different tolerance levels to the cold, so it's better to play it safe than sorry.

Some pets don't like to go potty outside when it's really cold or in the snow. Who can blame them?! If your pup refuses to go, there are some ways to get them to go. Head out with them and offer extra treats as incentive. Clear away the snow and ice from the ground so your pup can see the grass or concrete. If all else fails you can try to get them to use wee wee pads inside the house...that always worked for our dog!

Hopefully the unusual cold that many of us are experiencing ends soon. I'm ready for some summer sun and heat!
