Tesla has recalled over one million cars sold in China over an accelerator pedal defect that could increase the risk of a crash.

Automotive News says the defect stems from the intensity of Tesla's regenerative braking system which, in the affected cars, can't be adjusted by the user. The cars also don't alert drivers when they've stepped on the accelerator pedal for an elongated time, which can increase the probability of pedal misapplication, according to the State Administration for Market Regulation, China's regulatory body.

Owners will not have to bring their cars to service centers, as the fix for the 1.1 million affected cars will happen via an over-the-air update. The update will allow drivers to adjust the regenerative braking's intensity, as well as notify drivers when the accelerator pedal's been pressed for a long time.

Tesla is the most-recalled automaker by far. In February it recalled over 360,000 cars over its faulty self-driving beta software. Then in March, certain Model Ys were recalled because their steering wheels could fall off while the car was in motion.
