It was love at first sight for Terri Irwin and her late husband, Steve Irwin—or at least it was after they revealed their favorite animals to each other.

On Monday, March 11, the animal conservationist took to Instagram with a throwback photo of herself posing with a cougar.

"When Steve and I first met, he asked me about my favourite animal. When I told him how much I loved cougars, he asked me why," the mom of Bindi and Robert Irwin recalled. "Nobody had ever asked me why. I told him it was because cougars are such impressive predators, they can kill an animal larger than themselves with just their teeth."

Terri continued: "Steve smiled and said, 'That’s why I love crocodiles!' And the rest is history. ❤️"

In the comments, her Instagram followers reacted to the sweet story and declared how perfect they were together. One person wrote, "You two were made for each other from the beginning to the end. He knew you were the one for him."

Another person commented, "Oh the lives you two have touched.❤ Human lives, so many animal lives and continuing to do it through your children and grandchildren. ❤❤❤"

Yet another fan declared, "The greatest love story ever told 🥺."

On Sept. 4, 2006, Steve died after a stingray barb pierced him in the chest while filming in the Great Barrier Reef.

Steve's surviving family members paid tribute to him on Feb. 21—what would have been his 62nd birthday—with Terri sharing an Instagram video featuring her late husband, writing, "Happy Birthday! Missing my Action Man. ❤️"
