3 teachers put top-rated comfort shoes from Dr. Scholl's, Skechers and Sperry to the ultimate test

Teachers are on their feet all day, so if anyone knows the toll unsupportive footwear can take, it’s them.

“We have to walk the students up and down the stairs, seven flights, really tall ceilings, so there are so many stairs involved,” says Katherine, a 5th grade English teacher.

Robyn, a 7th-grade science teacher, knows her pain — literally.

“I’ve worn shoes teaching before that, by the end of the day, the balls of my feet are screaming,” she says.

So what do they wear?

“I usually wear anything that’s comfortable. Anything that has arch support, that’s really important to me,” says Nilka, a high school math teacher.

“Teachers, we have to be business casual,” says Katherine. “Closed-toed shoes, no sandals, no sneakers.” So we found the top-rated shoes that fit the criteria, and we put them to the test.

Skechers Cleo Bewitched Flat

Robyn: I was genuinely surprised by the Skechers. My feet are pretty comfy, I’m not really feeling much pain. They are really flexible material and really soft. I would honestly give these a 4.5 to a 5.

Nilka: Pretty comfortable. I would say that my arches don’t hurt. I walked to the train station, I walked to work, and my feet did not feel tired or uncomfortable for the entire day. [I would give these] a 4.

Katherine: My toes did feel a little cramped with the pointed toe. There’s not a whole lot of support to them, they honestly are like a sock kind of material. [I rate these] a 3.

Dr. Scholl’s Better Bootie

Robyn: The shoe was pretty comfortable. I had some issues with my toes just because of the heel. They kind of hurt just from being kind of slammed forward in the shoe. I would have to give the shoe a 3.5.

Nilka: They’re very comfortable, they feel very cushiony. I walked around specifically more than I needed to. My coworkers are saying that they were cute, they had me turn around and model them. [I rate these] a 5.

Katherine: They have kind of a foam padding to them on the heel. I was a little skeptical but I like them. [I rate these] a 4.

Sperry Seaport Penny Loafer

Robyn: These shoes feel very much like walking on a cloud all day. It’s like special how soft it was. The top of my big toes felt a little pressure from the top of the shoe. I would probably rate the Sperrys a 4.

Nilka: They feel really comfortable, I’ve been walking around. They had a cushion by the arches so I was able to wear them all day. [I rate them] a 4.5.

Katherine: Those were my favorite by far aesthetically. I feel like when you do break them in they are comfortable shoes. They might be the most comfortable in my closet after that. [I rate these] a 5.

The verdict is in — and there’s no clear cut winner! Each teacher preferred a different shoe. For Robyn, it was the Skechers flat. “Overall, it’s just comfortable and versatile. It’s an easy choice,” she says. Nilka opted for the Dr. Scholl’s bootie. “I liked the fact that they have a heel and I found them comfortable,” she says. “Every other part of me was exhausted except for my feet.” And for Katherine, the Sperrys took the top spot. “Great quality and I like the aesthetic,” she says. “I am a Sperrys girl I guess, out of the three.”
