Target Is Selling a 'Cute' $20 Linen Button-Back Tank Top That's So Similar to a J.Crew Style Almost 3x the Price

With warmer weather comes a whole slew of new outfits you can wear. That includes tank tops, of course. And while there’s nothing quite like owning a good, basic tank to either layer or just chill in, it’s always good to have nicer options too. These styles of tank tops usually look nice with minimal effort. Plus, they’re typically pretty comfy too. It's no wonder we're so excited about a new linen tank top from Target that features a trendy button-back style which is also pretty popular at J. Crew (for three times the price).
The shirt in question is Target’s Women's Linen Tank Top. It’s by their women’s clothing brand, A New Day, which is the closest to J. Crew-style of clothing you can get at Target (though Universal Thread does a pretty good job with the preppy and clean chic look too). This newer top is, you guessed it, made with a linen fabric (a 55% Linen, 45% Rayon blend to be exact). It’s also cropped and lightweight, which is perfect for a late spring or summer bash.

Women's Linen Tank Top - A New Day, $20 at Target
As we also mentioned, the most prominent feature of this tank, other than the very put-together style you can see from the front, is the button-down back. It’s pretty simple but adds quite a bit to the style of this crewneck tank. And shoppers love this look.
"Best linen top," one person titled their review, then wrote how "these linen tops are the best I have found.” They mentioned that even though they’re cropped, they’re “long enough for women with long torsos or bigger chests,” which is always good to hear. And of course, they adore the “bright colors”; this tank comes in four colors in stock right now—black, blue, pink and tan—and sizes XS through 4X.
Other reviewers pointed out that it’s a “lightweight linen tank top" and another demanded that Target “add more colors."
“LOVE!! such a cute fit and the perfect amount of crop!” they finished. “Target please restock the white one 😭."
As we said up top, this tank also looks like tanks by more expensive brands. One reviewer agreed, writing that Target’s linen button-back tank is “literal perfection” and looks “way more expensive than $20.”
"Love that I can mix it with a variety of linen shorts, linen pants and high-waisted jeans,” they wrote. “It looks nearly identical to the Madewell version and is a fraction of the price…”

They’re most likely referring to Madewell’s Bateau-Neck Tank in 100% Linen, which is $78 in solid colors. And popular shopping Instagram, @best.of.target, posted the tank top, writing: “J.Crew level classy for $20 bucks??? I’m there!”
They’re referring to the Maxine Button-Back Top in linen, starting at $66.99 at J. Crew, which is 100% linen. Outside of the fabric blend being different, the cut and style of their tank versus Target’s is nearly the same.
While J. Crew and Madewell’s button-back tanks are made with potentially high-quality materials, Target’s Women's Linen Tank Top is a good choice for only $20. Plus you can find matching sets at Target—like A New Day’s Women's High-Rise Linen Pull-On Shorts ($15)—which is always a plus.
