Tampa’s ZooTampa Unveils New Family Care Center for Parents and Infants

Tampa (BLOOM) – In a fresh move to blend family fun with wellness and convenience, ZooTampa at Lowry Park and Muma Children’s Hospital at Tampa General Hospital (TGH) have teamed up to launch a new family care center, aimed at providing a private and cozy spot for new parents. The center, open as of April 11, offers a much-needed oasis for nursing mothers and families visiting the zoo.

Dubbed ‘The Lil’ Joey Family Stop,’ located in the zoo’s newly minted Australia section, the center is designed with the comfort of parents and their little ones in mind. It features an array of amenities including cozy seating, power outlets for pumping, a bottle warmer, and even a TV for a bit of entertainment. Designed to ensure privacy, the center allows parents to lock the door and nurse or pump in peace, away from the hustle and bustle of the zoo.

John Couris, the President and CEO of Tampa General, emphasized that top-notch care should extend beyond hospital walls. “We’re bringing world-class care into the community spaces where families enjoy their time,” he said. Couris, alongside key figures like Melissa Golombek of Muma Children’s Hospital at TGH and Tiffany Burns of ZooTampa, inaugurated the facility, welcoming families to the new, comfortable space.

This initiative isn’t just about providing a nursing area; it’s aimed at the ongoing partnership between ZooTampa and Tampa General, aiming to enhance the health and wellness of families in Tampa Bay. Burns highlighted the zoo’s commitment to improving visitor experiences and accessibility, expressing gratitude towards Muma Children’s Hospital at TGH for their support.

The family care center joins a list of collaborative efforts between the two entities, including a new walking trail introduced in February and last year’s Kids Fun Run. These initiatives are part of a broader effort to integrate health and wellness into everyday family outings, making ZooTampa not just a place to see wildlife but a venue that supports family health and well-being.

The Lil’ Joey Family Stop is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., ensuring that ZooTampa’s littlest visitors and their parents have a comfortable visit, exploring and learning about wildlife with a bit more ease.
