Tahoe "On Track" For Above Average Snowfall In February

Everyone in Tahoe was starting to worry, come January, when terrain still wasn't opening and Mother Nature seemed to be holding out on us. But come February, it's a whole different story here.

Weather forecasting service Open Snow/Tahoe Daily Snow reports that with "0-3 inches of new snow that fell on the mountains from the snow showers Tue-Tue night, we are on track to see above-average snowfall for February if the advertised active pattern returns to CA later in the month."

As you can see from Open Snow's spreadsheet above, Central Sierra mountains have gotten dumped on, with the Season-To-Date averages above 80% at Bear Valley, Dodge Ridge, Mammoth, and China Peak.

Dodge Ridge actually has more snow than their average, at 107% of STD average. China Peak has almost exactly their average at 99%. Mammoth has 81%, not bad, and their snow is looking preeettyy dang sweet, if I do say so myself.

For us up here in Tahoe, Sugar Bowl is coming in strong, at 87% of their STD average, Mt. Rose with 86%, Boreal with 79%, Palisades Tahoe with 74%, Northstar with 71%, Tahoe Donner with 68%, and then Diamond Peak needing a little more snow with 58%, and Homewood, same thing, having 54% of their Season-To-Date average.

South Lake fared about the same, with Kirkwood at 73%, Sierra-at-Tahoe at 68%, and Heavenly at 52%.

But we are only one week into February, and more storms are on their way. In fact, it's snowing right now.

Although the next week looks mostly dry in Tahoe, more precipitation rolls in around the 19th.

This active pattern means, well, the chance for snow. And the chance for snow means Tahoe could receive above average snowfall this month.

Tahoe Daily Snow promises to watch this pattern as it comes closer, writing to X (twitter), "After a drier pattern through the 17th-18th, the long-range models show the Pacific storm track returning to CA during the week of the 19th. We'll be watching the trends closely as we get closer."

We'll be waiting for more information, because more snow would be epic.
