TAG to host annual Gala and Art Auction

Apr. 26—HIGH POINT — Officials of The Art Gallery at Congdon Yards hope to raise lots of funds and lots of friends at the nonprofit's annual Gala and Art Auction this week.

"We've budgeted for $150,000, so that's a big chunk of our budget," TAG director Jeff Horney said. "And as a friend-raiser, this event is a great way to introduce people to what we're doing here. For some people, even our supporters, this is the only time we may see them during the year."

The event will be Friday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

The art silent auction will feature 161 original works of art from more than 50 artists who work in such media as paintings, printmaking, drawing, photography and collage. Most of the artists are based in the Triad, according to Horney.

"We have all different skill levels," Horney said. "Some are professional artists who earn their living as an artist, but we also have local Sunday painters who just love to paint and love to participate in this event every year."

In addition to the artwork, more than 100 other items donated by local businesses will be available in the silent auction. The items include gift certificates, professional services, parties and more.

"It's all done by cell phone bidding, which is really cool," Horney said. "If you get outbid, your phone will tell you and give you a chance to up your bid, or it will bid for you automatically. You can also bid remotely if you're not here or if you leave early, as long as you're registered in the system."

Attendees can also look forward to food from Southern Roots, a variety of wine and beer courtesy of Blue Water Grille, premium spirits from Earl's Landing, and live music by Mild Goose Chase.

This year's raffle painting is "Still Life, Red Stripes," an 18-by-18-inch oil on canvas donated by artist Margie Stewart, which has a retail value of $2,200.

Tickets to the gala and raffle tickets can be purchased through the TAG website at www.tagart.org.

All proceeds will benefit TAG.

"All the money will help fund our programming, which is growing by leaps and bounds here at our new space at Congdon Yards," Horney said. "It's going to be a great evening for the community."
