I'm not what you would call preppy. In fact, when I finally outgrew my layered Lacoste phase in the early aughts, I swore off polo shirts all together. But some styles, they're classics for a reason, and now that a good two decades have passed, I found myself more inclined to give said classic another go. The polo in question had to be different than the logo-laden pastel picks of my youth. Enter: the Suzanne Ribbed Polo from Alex Mill. And I don't just love it: I am obsessed with it.

To be clear, I am a total nightmare with my shopping criteria. Everything from the cut, to the fabric, and smaller details like 'does the collar lay properly', 'does the fit cling' comes into play. Needless to say, this top, which has quickly become part of my off-duty chic-yet-slouchy uniform, fulfills the pre-requisites to earn a place in my closet.

The first thing I love is that even though this is fitted, it isn't tight. It just flatters the shape. And what makes the fit even more appealing is the vertical ribbing, which beyond its yummy tactile effect, is subtly lengthening, and also gives a smoothing appearance. No lumps and bumps to be seen.

Something I also love is that it has button closure—the kind of small detail that really elevates a piece, andalso gives ample styling opportunities! You can leave a few buttons open at the bottom and the top for a hint of sexiness, or wear it all the way open layered over a tank—maybe even a swimsuit come summer.

The weight of this blend of cotton, linen, and polyester is also perfect. It's not overly heavy, but not whisper thin—and great to layer heavier textures with too.

The polo I own is in the ivory color-way, but all three hues available are super wearable. And if my wear-with-anything-anywhere habit is any indication, it's worth considering in multiple colors. It even dresses up well too. You can pair it with a slip skirt and a pair of mules for cool '90s look, or with jeans and shorts to dress down. Really, it's a no brainer.
