The Sweet Spot: MoRa baker from Colombia has one secret ingredient

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – While some bakers guard their recipes like jewels in a vault, Sneyder Gonzalez happily gives away her secrets.

“It has to be smooth. When I make some pressure on it, it doesn’t crack any sides,” said Sneyder.

It’s an all-day process in the back room at the Sweet Spot Studio off Monroe Road. She’s making pandebono, which is a cheese bread. She’s also making arepas and coffee cookies.

“I say that because I am Colombian and I love coffee and Colombian means coffee, I have to bring something with coffee,” said Sneyder.

These are the foods of her home, though it’s a place she can’t go back to.

“Well, the situation there was a little dangerous for all the family and we had to literally run away,” remembered Sneyder.

Eleven years ago, she and her family had to escape Colombia. With practically nothing, they ended up in Charlotte.

“In the beginning, it was a little heavy. It’s a new culture, new language, new place,” said Sneyder.

It’s a whole new life, a safer and a better one but she misses home.

“The treats that I make try to fill that hole in my heart,” said Sneyder.

She just started selling her homemade Colombian baked goods in April at the Matthews Farmers Market under her business name, Dulces Antojitos.

“It’s something that’s blowing my mind,” said Sneyder.

She keeps… selling… out.

“My favorite is when people love the taste,” smiled Sneyder.

Everything is made by hand- and taste-tested of course.

“It’s quality control, it’s important,” joked Sneyder.

Hungry?

Well, here’s her recipe.

“Make sure that you have enough love inside,” said Sneyder. “You will be able to share (love) and be happy. That is the recipe (for) a beautiful life.”

Her secret ingredient is one everyone has, we just have to make sure to use it.
