Superman: Legacy Official Logo Uses the Kingdom Come Crest

Superman: Legacy, the first film in the newly rebooted DCU, is about to go into production soon. The James Gunn-directed film recently held its first table read, and we now have an idea of what the hero’s suit will look like. While Gunn has said in the past that the film is influenced by All-Star Superman, the movie’s official logo hints at a far more sinister take on the hero.

Isabela Merced and Sara Sampaio, who play Hawkgirl and Eve Teschmacher in the film, posted photos on their Instagram stories revealing the film’s logo, which is the crest from Superman in the Elseworlds’ Kingdom Come storyline. The logo in the photo is in black and white, but the one that will be used in the film is expected to be in the classic red and yellow color scheme.

This is not the first time that we’ve seen references to Kingdom Come for Gunn’s DCU plans. Back when Gunn came on board at DC Studios, the director shared cryptic pictures from the Kingdom Come run with the caption “making plans.” Given that Gunn's decisions suggest a more conventional take on the role, it seems the Kingdom Come inspiration stops at the logo. It remains to be seen whether the Superman suit will keep the red trunks or ditch them.

Kingdom Come is an iconic four-issue miniseries written by Mark Waid and illustrated by Alex Ross. Set in an alternate future of the DC universe, the story sees an older Justice League fighting against a newer generation of heroes who have lost their moral compass.

Of course, using the Kingdom Come crest doesn't mean that a direct adaptation is on the way. The CW's Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event on TV saw Brandon Routh reprising his role as Superman clad in a suit inspired by the story. Routh's Superman had suffered a personal loss in that crossover, with the suit paying homage to the character's alternate version.

Superman: Legacy will take place in a world where superheroes already exist, with David Coreswet’s Clark Kent reconciling his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. Previous casting announcements have shown that many DC heroes like Supergirl, Hawkgirl, Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern, Metamorpho, and Mister Terrific will appear in the film. Nicholas Hoult will play Lex Luthor, who is expected to be the primary antagonist in the film, while Rachel Brosnahan will play Lois Lane.
