Sugarloafers Share Incredible Photos Of The Skiclipse From The Mountain

Sugarloaf, ME, was one of the East Coast resorts that was in the path of the eclipse. If there's one thing we know about Sugarloafers, it's that they love their mountain, and that held true for the special occasion.

Chris Carleton, owner at AllSpeed (bike and ski shop in Maine) shared his photo from the moment. See below.

Photographer Jamie Walter also posted photos of the eclipse, saying, "to witness a solar eclipse anywhere is extraordinary; to catch totality directly over the mountain you call home is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience."

Look closer at his photos: he timed these photos so perfectly, that during the complete covering, the powder spraying from the skier's skis is backlit and still in view. See below.

The eclipse, which began shortly after 2pm and maxed out around 3:30pm, reportedly became a communal viewing event, with people gathering at the cell tower at the top of the mountain.

One source told us that while they initially wished for a more private viewing experience, the actual experience of being in a large crowd turned into a festive party atmosphere that actually made it even more fun in the end.

Another source deemed it "the most magical thing [they] have ever seen."

While we can't confirm or deny that, we do know that Sugarloaf experienced three whole minutes of darkness, and that this was the last total solar eclipse in this hemisphere for 20 years.

While all of Maine viewed the eclipse, only some communities were in its path of totality, including Carrabassett Valley.

The ski down, no matter which run at Sugarloaf you picked, probably didn't hurt, either.
