On the first anniversary of his death, Stephen 'tWitch' Boss' good friend and former boss Ellen DeGeneres is looking back on their time well spent together.

The DJ was found dead at a Los Angeles area hotel on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2022, of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, leaving the talk show host stunned to discover he'd been struggling with his mental health.

She took to social media on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2023, to share some of her favorite memories with the late dancer, and to issue a plea to her followers to look out for each other, because "you just don’t know what people are going through."

Having worked together for years, DeGeneres naturally has "so many memories" of tWitch, choosing just a couple to remember him a year after his passing.

First, she looked back on their end-of-show ritual, which involved singing and dancing without fail. "...then we would walk off arm in arm and walk to my dressing room, which was the first one we got to, and...I would say, ‘I love you,’ and he would say, I love you much,’ and then he would walk off to his." Every single show she says they ended "arm in arm."

"I miss that," she added.

The two also took trips together, with one of the last ones they went on being to Vegas, where they saw Silk Sonic together. "...we both...are huge fans of Silk Sonic. That was really fun, singing to each other and just being in Vegas together was really fun."

But "one of the funniest things" DeGeneres says they ever did was on their trip to Miraval with producer Andy Lassner. Over footage of the moment, DeGeneres recalled how the DJ persevered through his fear to climb and stand atop a tall pole, which Andy then joined him on. "...that was one of the most fun shoots that we have ever done, and one of the last trips that we took."

But, thanks to those memories, "his memory lives on." They also serve as a reminder that "you just don’t know what people are going through." DeGeneres pointed out how tWitch "was a happy guy," or so she thought. "I was really close to him and he never shared that with me," she continued. "So that is sad that he didn’t feel like he could find a way out and share that he was struggling, because we all would have done anything we could to help him. I miss him every single day..."

She ended the video with a graphic directing anyone in need of help to the right resources, writing, "If you are experiencing suicidal thoughts or having a mental health crisis, or [are] concerned for someone else, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at (800) 273-8255 or text 988."
