Stephen Colbert calls out Tucker Carlson for stealing his bit

Stephen Colbert called out Fox News host Tucker Carlson on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday. And it wasn’t just because of Carlson’s lack of discussion about the unprecedented FBI raid of the home, office, and hotel room of President Trump’s attorney, Michael Cohen, but because of what Carlson covered instead: pandas.

Colbert played a clip of Carlson saying, “You know the official story about pandas. They’re cute, but adorably helpless, which is why they are almost extinct. But, like a lot of what we hear, that’s a lie. Pandas, it turns out, could easily kill you if they felt like it. Thank god they don’t.”

“This segment was insane,” Colbert said. “How do I know? It is literally something I did on my old show, The Colbert Report, when I played an insane person.” He then played a clip from his Comedy Central show from 2011 in which he said, “For too long, our mortal enemies, the Chinese, have been using pandas’ cuteness to infiltrate our hearts. Never forget that they are panda BEARS — godless killing machines.”

“Tucker Carlson stole my bit!” Colbert exclaimed. In addition to the bit and the absurdity of covering pandas instead of the raids, Colbert pointed out something else Carlson steals on a nightly basis: “Acting incredibly stupid while wearing an ill-fitting suit.”

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35 on CBS.
