Staffy Cries Tears of Joy After Being Reunited with Beloved Magpie

It's the ending that everyone has hoped for. Weeks after social media stars Molly and Peggy were separated by Australian authorities, the two have finally been reunited. And their owners are now sharing the happy moment that Staffordshire Bull Terrier Peggy laid eyes on the magpie once again.

Shared by A Current Affair, a video shows the reunion as it first happened.

In the video, the animals' owner Reece Mortensen carried Molly into their Brisbane home in her carrier. And right away Peggy gave her the warmest greeting.

"Look, Molly's back!" a woman, possibly their owner Juliette Wells said from behind the camera.

Almost immediately Peggy started crying. We just know that she really thought she'd never see her BFF ever again. Peggy had a real case of "happy tail," as her owners slowly brought the bird through the front door.

"Hurry up, Dad. Molly's here!" she seemed to say.

It certainly was a happy day for the family and is well-deserved for the weeks that Mortensen and Wells were put through the ringer to get their magpie back. The couple first got popular online for documenting Molly and Peggy's unusual relationship. But things took a sour turn when a small, but vocal, group of people online complained about them keeping the bird and Molly was ultimately forced to be surrendered to the Southern wildlife Operations Department of Environment.

The couple was heartbroken. They took to their 800,000 fans to share the news and seemed flabbergasted at what had happened.

"We are asking why a wild Magpie can’t decide for himself where he wants to live and who he wants to spend his time with?" they wrote on Instagram on March 26.

It's been a rocky road ever since. Horrified fans wrote in and lended their support to the couple, hoping that they could appeal to the Environment Department. There was even a petition to try and get the magpie back.

People really were passionate about the Molly and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier getting back together, and in the past couple of weeks there were hints that a reunion was possible.

On April 4, Premier Stephen Miles told A Current Affair that "The Environment Department stands ready to train Molly's parents to be wildlife carers to get that that certification so Molly can be reunited with his family."

But there was still a chance it wasn't going to happen. Thankfully it seems that officials decided to return Molly back to his owners. A decision that has meant so much to whole happy family.

"Words can't describe like the joy to see them remember each other," 9Now reports Wells said. "Peggy didn't know what to do with herself. She's like, 'Is this really Molly? Is this really happening?'"

"I think (Molly) barks more than the dogs to tell you the truth," she joked.

In exchange for Molly's return the couple did agree to undergo training and they agreed not to receive any future financial gain from Molly. They're meeting with government representatives soon to finalize the details of Molly's return. But still, they do have high hopes for the bird's future.

"We'd love for him to fly away and meet a girl and bring his babies back," Mortensen said.

"I'll definitely keep sharing the love and the happiness cause people need that, people want that and these guys just wanna be themselves and share it around too," Wells added.
