Sprite's new flavor promises to be the "coolest" one yet–literally.

The Coca-Cola-owned brand debuted a brand-new variety of the fan-favorite soda earlier this week, and it's perfect for summer not just because it's a seasonal flavor but because of its "cooling intensity."

Called Sprite Chill, the new soda is said to be a refreshing twist on the classic cherry-lime pairing as a press release shared with Parade explains that takes advantage of "a proprietary blend of cooling agents to deliver a uniquely elevated sensory experience."

Sprite Chill will also be offered in a sugar-free option–Sprite Chill Zero Sugar–and they'll both be available wherever you get your soft drinks in North America through July (or while supplies last).

So just how did the brand incorporate a cooling sensation "without an accompanying mint flavor?" Through several rounds of development and testing with Coca-Cola's R&D team until the brand acquired the "optimal ratio of cherry-lime flavor and cooling intensity" said to bring "waves of refreshment" from the first sip to the last.

While similar technology has been used in confectionary and baking, according to the brand, Sprite Chill is one of the first sparkling soft drinks to deliver it.

“Consumers today are looking for multisensorial beverage experiences, so we saw a unique opportunity to elevate the crisp, refreshing taste Sprite fans expect with a first-of-its-kind cooling sensation,” said Felicity Boucetla, the senior director of product development for sparkling flavors, in a statement.

Sprite Chill is the most recent addition to the brand's limited-edition flavor options and follows Sprite Winter Spiced Cranberry and Sprite Lymonade Legacy.

"With Sprite Chill, we’re doubling down on these signature intrinsics while continuing our legacy of strategic flavor innovation and quenching fans’ thirst for variety and the exclusive badge value associated with trying and sharing limited-time-only beverages and experiences," added Sprite's brand director Kate Schaufelberger.
