Southern Ski Resort Celebrates Surpassing Last Season's Snowfall Total

Thus far, the ski season has been a mixed bag across the American West. Some resorts are raking in the snow, others not so much.

But out East, at Wintergreen Resort, Virginia, winter 2023-2024 has started to bring good tidings. The resort announced yesterday that they'd already surpassed last winter's snowfall total.

From the caption:

"We received about 4 inches of fresh snow up on the mountain overnight, surpassing the total snowfall from all of last season. Snowmaking is back online and it's looking like a winter wonderland. Dust off those skis and snowboards, and keep a close eye on our social media and website towards the middle of the week for an opening day announcement."

Here's the clincher: Wintergreen Resort has only received four inches of snow this season, meaning last winter was distinctly challenging for the Virginian resort (last winter, Wintergreen saw less than four inches of snow. The resort averages about 30 inches of snow).

The bar, sadly, was on the floor. After fighting with uncooperative weather for a few months, they called it quits last winter on February 26th, 2023.

This season, though, the prognosis looks better. The resort has been blowing heaps of snow, aided by those recently arrived four inches of the natural stuff.

While Wintergreen hasn't opened yet for the 2023-2024 winter, they state in their current mountain report that local skiers should: "keep a close eye on our social media and website towards the middle of the week for an opening day announcement."

Stay tuned, Virginia skiers; it looks like Wintergreen is aiming for a comeback. And, of course, keep thinking cold thoughts.
