Jay Peak "Back And Better Than Ever" After 10 Inch Dump

Vermont is sounding more and more like paradise these days, at least for powder hounds and anyone who likes to get steep and deep.

Just yesterday, officials at Jay Peak announced that there's a fresh 8-10 inches on the mountain, and more is on the way.

"After yesterday's brief meltdown, we're back and better than ever with a fresh 8-10" of snow."

Jay Peak currently has a 36 inch base (wet snow), 58 inches of powder at the summit, 6 out of 9 lifts open, and 44 out of 81 trails open. (However, all 14 expert trails are open, and 27 out of 29 intermediate runs are open, so the only real area left to fill is for a variety of beginner terrain.)

It's not even yet halfway through December.

The resort saw 6 inches in the last 24 hours and 12 inches in the last 72.

Jay Peak has received a cool 19 inches over the last 8 days.

There may be flurries coming down today, but nothing serious is in the forecast until December 18th, when 4 inches is predicted to fall.

The average snowfall for December at Jay Peak is 58 inches, with a base depth of 17 inches. This year, to date, there is already 41 inches of total snowfall.

Last year is a tough season to beat, with 321 inches of snowfall over the course of the winter.

Nonetheless, the resort tells skiers not to let their guards--or goggles--down. "Keep those goggle wipers handy because it's not stopping for a while, and it's only getting colder."

We hope so too.
