‘Do something out of your comfort box;’ Hundreds brave the rain to get active with Bike To Work Day

Today is the Bike-To-Work Day, a day aimed at getting people moving and active.

As reported on News Center 7 at 5:00 p.m., hundreds stopped by Riverscape Metro Park to start their day before jumping on their bikes.

While it was a little bit rainy this morning, that didn’t stop people from biking to work today.

“Wasn’t sure if I was going to make it or not with the rain, especially,” Sabina Marroquin of Dayton, said.

The rain didn’t stop her from borrowing a bike to ride for Bike-To-Work Day.

“I don’t know how much longer I can borrow from other people maybe investing in one might be the next step,” Marroquin said.

The Five River Metro Parks host the event for those who typically don’t ride like Marroquin and those who are serious cyclists.

“Even though it’s a little rainy, we still have quite a few 100 people showing up,” Chris Buck, the Special Events Coordinator for Five River Metro Parks said.

Buck organized the event and says Bike-To-Work Day is about getting active and seeing what your community has to offer.

“It’s a great way to get people active in their daily lives and really show that they can fit in, you know, cycling or being a little bit more active,” Buck said.

It’s a reunion of sorts for dedicated cyclists, but for first-timers like Marroquin, it’s a push to do something different and maybe something she’ll do more often.

“maybe it’s okay to do something out of your comfort box every now and then,” Marroquin said.
