Snowboarder Captures Comical Rope Drop At Mammoth Mountain

A crowd of skiers and snowboarders gathers for Ski Patrol's rope drop at the top of Mammoth Mountain, CA.

The rope falls, and everyone shuffles along the flat trail, until one, two... and then a whole bunch of snowboarders are down, and pure chaos ensues.

The description beneath the TikTok indicates that those on scene weren't bothered by the pile up. The caption reads "absolutely insane frothy day. So much chowder. So much fun. So many laughs. So many smiles. We are so fortunate to live here," and it certainly looks like there were a lot of smiles and laughs.

If chowder is a new-fangled word for powder, we're with that.

Mammoth currently has an 80 inch base of snow at its summit, and 157 out of 176 trails open.

Clearly, the run right after the rope drop is long and flat, judging by how none of the snowboarders strapped in for the ride (I am avoiding snowboard bashing... it looks so cool on the way down, but man, does it look rough for any sort of other terrain crossings).

The real tragedy, though, is how many people randomly fell on the flats. So many questions! Why? How? Was it a chain reaction caused mentally (by seeing others fall it induced fear)?

It reminds me of the way Darth Vader could control people in Star Wars just by looking at them.

Check out the scene from Star Wars below.

But instead of light sabers, skiers have, you know, skis (equally full of The Force, obviously). Snowboarders are simply falling to the ground for no discernible reason!

Hey, maybe someone in the crowd here found the riders lack of froth disturbing...
