Snowbird, UT Makes Decision on Closing Day

Snowbird in Utah just released their much-anticipated Spring Operations Update, complete with wave emojis on either side. To indicate... surfy turns? Warm weather? Going with the flow, operations-wise?

Officials at the Bird wrote, "after an incredible 169 days together, Snowbird will celebrate the last day of the 2023-24 season on Memorial Day, May 27." See below.

The caption continued on to explain that the season send-off is happening this upcoming Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 8 am - 2 pm, conditions permitting.

The lifts that will be spinning are Peruvian Express from 8 am to 2 pm, The Tram from 8 am to 2 pm, and Little Cloud from 8 am to 1 pm.

Snowbird's Spring lift operating schedule also details that Entry 1 is closed for the season. Parking is primarily available through Entries 2 and 4. There is no skiing access below the base of Little Cloud due to construction, and skiers cannot ski down Creek Road to access parking on Wilbere Hill or in the Upper Gad Lot.

Officials also explained this decision to close Memorial Day weekend as being twofold. Firstly, because the snowpack is rapidly melting with the warming temperatures, but also because the resort is seeing the "critical need for our teams to focus on large resort improvements this summer—such as the Wilbere chair upgrade."

While this announcement may have been disappointing to many late-season skiers looking for as many days as possible, Snowbird assured everyone that this closing "will mean an even better mountain to welcome you back to next season."

Also, on the bright side, the artists for Snowbird's live performances are live on their website. On May 25th, The Pour is playing, followed by Cory Mon & Co on the 26th, and for closing day on the 27th, Slow Potion is scheduled to perform.

Snowbird ended the 2023-2024 season (as of today) with 603 inches of snowfall.

Although this closing may not be everyone's favorite thing right now, it is for the betterment of the resort long-term. We bet everyone will be excited next season, even if no one likes to see winter go.
