SMLA hosting ‘A Day at the Lake’ showcasing all things fun at Smith Mountain Lake

SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE, Va. (WFXR)—The Smith Mountain Lake Association is hosting ‘A Day at the Lake,’ showcasing all the ways to enjoy the lake and recognizing those who work to keep it safe and clean on Saturday, June 8.

The free event is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Goodhue Boat Company on Crazy Horse Drive in Moneta. It will feature raffles, prizes, free items, local food trucks, and hands-on activities, games, and exhibits. There will also be a search for Freddy the SMLA safety duck where the first person to find him can collect a special prize.

The opening ceremony will include an announcement of $150,000 budgeted by the Commonwealth of Virginia to study Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) that have been found at the lake. Local and state officials will also be recognized for their efforts in allocating funds managed by the state Department of Environmental Quality and involving Virginia Tech and SMLA.
