Skier Recounts Epic Conditions During Three Foot Storm At Canadian Ski Resort

This week, roughly 40 inches of snow fell at Whistler Blackcomb, British Columbia.

Not one to miss a good time, skier and YouTuber James Pavelick of Rise & Alpine hit the road at 5 A.M. sharp in pursuit of bottomless powder turns.

Whistler Blackcomb's seven-day snowfall total is currently sitting pretty at 43 inches as the dust settles, per its daily snow report.

While Pavelick encountered mostly closed chairlifts at Whistler Blackcomb during his ski—high winds and avalanche danger saw to that—much of the resort's terrain has opened since.

But the lack of open terrain during Pavelick's journey into the white room didn't matter much. Anything, from a humble slope to a gladed run, is worth skiing when the snow's light and bottomless.

In the caption to his video, Pavelick noted that the heavy snowfall has brought elevated mountain risk. "Please be extremely conservative in the Backcountry this weekend, or consider not leaving the resort at all. Weak layers are present, and this storm snow needs time to bond," he wrote.

Avalanche Canada, who recently issued a Special Public Avalanche Warning for the Whistler Blackcomb area, shares this sentiment. In short, while the snow's good, it's rowdy out there. Stay safe.
