You Should Be Sipping Strawberry-Mint Sangria All Season

No matter what kind of gathering you’re hosting, every party gets better with a pitcher of sangria. It’s light, easy to assemble, and even easier to drink, which makes it a perfect beverage to serve in the warmer months. You can make sangria with virtually every type of wine and any kind of fruit. This version highlights some of the best spring and summer produce—namely, strawberries.

Strawberries, mint, and lemon all come together to bring out the best of a bottle of white wine. It’s slightly tart, slightly sweet, and super-refreshing. And the strawberry flavor takes center stage in this sangria. Not only are there sliced strawberries swimming in the glass, but also a strawberry mint syrup that gives the sangria a beautiful pink tint.

One of the MVPs of this recipe, however, is a liqueur that everybody should have on their bar cart: St. Germain. This elderflower liqueur is often referred to as “bartender’s ketchup” because its versatile, slightly floral flavor makes almost any beverage better. The best part about this sangria is that you can assemble the components ahead of time. You can make the syrup and slice the fruit up to a day in advance, and then build the sangria in the pitcher when you’re ready to serve. Cheers!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb.

    strawberries, sliced, divided

  • 1 c.

    loosely packed fresh mint leaves, divided

  • 2 oz.

    simple syrup

  • Ice

  • 1

    (750-mL) bottle dry white wine, such as Cabernet Sauvignon

  • 1 1/2 c.

    (12 oz.) soda water

  • 2 oz.

    St. Germain

  • Juice of 1 lemon

  • 1

    lemon, thinly sliced

Directions

  1. In a cocktail shaker or large measuring cup, using a muddler, mash half of strawberries and half of mint into a chunky paste. Add simple syrup and continue to muddle until strawberries are completely broken down.

  2. Fill a pitcher with ice, then strain strawberry syrup through a fine-mesh sieve into pitcher. Add wine, soda water, St. Germain, and lemon juice and stir to combine.

  3. Stir in lemon slices and remaining 8 ounces strawberries and 1/2 cup mint.
