Sinéad O'Connor's Children Reflect on Their 'Sorrow' Following Singer's Death

Sinéad O'Connor's family is opening up about the devastating loss of their beloved mother and relative publicly for the first time.

O'Connor's children Jake, Roisin and Yeshua, joined by extended relatives, issued a statement in The Irish Times one month after the singer's death "to thank the countless kind people who sympathised and offered condolences on Sinéad’s recent passing."

The official statement thanked Ireland's president and other politicians for their presence at O'Connor's funeral, as well as those who led the services, the many musicians who came to accompany the family with music throughout the memorial and "all those in UK who helped in this task."

Among the acts who performed at O’Connor’s funeral were Irish singers Pauline ScanlonSíle Denvir and Damien Dempsey, among a handful of others.

"The family gathering in the afternoon [of O'Connor's Aug. 8 funeral service] was in Powerscourt House where management and staff were excellent in every respect and Sinéad’s life was celebrated there by a host of her friends in music who helped to ease the burden of sorrow at Sinéad’s passing," the notice read in part.

It continued, "Our thanks to the media personnel in general at home and abroad who celebrated Sinéad in song and story while showing respect for the privacy requested by the family. We ask that this privacy continue to be respected."

"Finally, we wish to thank Sinéad’s fans and admirers for the wonderful funeral procession they gave her past her old home in Bray and for the national and international outpouring of love and affection for Sinéad from the time of her passing. The prayers and thanks of the extended O’Connor family are with you all," the statement concluded.

As Parade previously reported, O'Connor died on Wednesday, July 26, at the age of 56, about a year and a half after the tragic death of her son Shane. At the time, her family confirmed the news, noting, "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad. Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time."

London’s Metropolitan police have since said that her death is not being treated as "suspicious" after officers were called to the scene of O'Connor's passing on a report of an “unresponsive woman." However, an official cause of death has yet to be released.
