New Selena Gomez Photo Immediately Becomes a Viral Meme

Selena Gomez posted a new photo of herself over the weekend—and it took the internet by storm.

Shortly after the 31-year-old Selena + Chef star snapped the carefree pic showing her all cozy in a blanket outside, it was picked up by the entertainment-focused social media account Pop Base on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, alongside the straightforward caption: "Selena Gomez in new photo."

And from there, fans had a field day turning the pic into a viral meme.

Some internet users showed off their way with words, penning fictional scenarios surrounding the ethereal image like, "Mom’s on Christmas morning watching their kids opening gifts they told them they weren’t getting."

"Me when it’s raining and I crack the window open to hear it," another shared.

A third quipped, "When you convince yourself to finally go out, then realize it was a mistake and you'd rather be home."

There were also many references made to horror movie cliches with one writing, "horror movie characters sitting in the back of an ambulance after almost dying," before a second specifically called out fictional character Sidney Prescott (played by Neve Campbell) in the Scream franchise: "Sydney [sic] Prescott in the back of an ambulance at the end of every Scream film."

Even the official Only Murders in the Building social team hopped on the trend, adding, "sitting in the back of the ambulance after surviving another murder in the building."

Someone else likened her aesthetic to that of someone who just survived a zombie apocalypse, joking, "She’s serving zombie apocalypse survivor who spent 2 years on the move after The Outbreak and just found shelter at The Sanctuary."

Others took the opportunity to employ their editing skills, resulting in doctored images so good that they got the attention of the pop star herself.

One user edited the picture to be in black and white before sharing it alongside the caption, "my mom just sent me this old photo of my abuela from when she was still living in mexico, this was taken during a year without rain," and earned a repost from Gomez.

Another photoshopped a hat, some hot chocolate and a fire pit into the frame, captioning it, "December 1st 12:00 am."

Gomez's pic eventually was edited into other memes as well, continuing the lifecycle of laughs for days to come.

Gomez only returned to social media earlier this year and over the past few months, she's been sharing more frequent photo updates online. From random photo dumps to behind-the-scenes clips of OMITB and throwback photos with friends, this is lookin' to be the summer of Selena!
