Seasons Collide As Utah Ski Resorts Record First Snowfall Of The Season

Millions of Americans across the Midwest and East Coast are under severe heat advisories as we trudge into September. Meanwhile, Utah's ski resorts are reporting their first snowfall of the season.

We reported yesterday, September 4th, that Snowbird and Solitude were the first ski resorts to share pictures of the light dusting. The other ski areas in the Cottonwoods, Alta and Brighton, also picked up their first flakes of the year.

Check out the social media posts shared by Alta and Brighton of summer and winter colliding on September 4th, 2023 (click the arrow to the right to progress through the slides):

Excitement about the season's first snow spread like wildfire amongst skiers across social media. Even a few flakes provided a moment of respite from the doldrums of summer.

One 'elephant-in-the-room-type' question seems to be floating around -- Will this season be as good as last year...?

For those who need a refresher, nearly every ski resort across northern Utah broke their seasonal snowfall record during the Winter '22-'23 season.

Alta Ski Area led the pack with a whopping 903 inches (75.25 feet) of snow. Brighton followed closely behind at 881 inches on the season.

It's unlikely that this winter's seemingly-inevitable El Niño will produce the same endless stream of deep storms like last season's strong La Niña, but we can certainly hope!

Start doing your snow dances, friends. Winter is coming.
