As a beauty editor, I am accustomed to being asked for a fair amount of skincare advice on a regular basis. I do my best to give the people what they want, but generally speaking, the broader the question is, the harder it is to answer. A difficult one that people love to lob my way is, “What is the skincare ingredient I need to be using?” The question used to fluster me, but I have a pretty scientifically sound suggestion now: retinol, the only FDA-approved topical anti-aging skincare ingredient.

But how do you pick a retinol when there are hundreds, possibly thousands, on the market? Find one that is affordable, has a rabid fanbase, and is used by an ageless celebrity. You can tick off all three boxes for $27 with RoC’s Retinol Correxion Line Smoothing Max Hydration Cream.

When I talked to Sarah Jessica Parker in November (humble brag) she called this RoC moisturizer a “favorite” for her “sensitive skin.” Its prowess is twofold: first off, there’s the titular retinol which is a do-it-all wrinkle-reducing, fine-line-preventing, hyperpigmentation-fading, skin-renewing, and texture-smoothing ingredient. Then there’s hyaluronic acid, which is a fruitful ingredient on its own, but even more so in this context. It’s a super-hydrating humectant that counteracts retinol’s infamous side effects like dryness, flaky skin, inflammation, and irritation.

More than 9,000 people of all ages have given this now-$27 RoC’s Retinol Correxion Line Smoothing Max Hydration Cream a five-star rating at Amazon. One shopper saw a “significant reduction in fine lines and wrinkles” as well as “plumper and more radiant” skin and smaller pores after using it for a few weeks. “It's like my skin got a mini makeover without harsh chemicals or needles,” they wrote. Another shopper said the cream made their “ruddy” complexion look “bright, plump, smooth, young, and fresh,” while another reviewer called it a “game changer” for transforming “dull-looking” skin.

Head to Amazon to shop the SJP-loved RoC Retinol Correxion Line Smoothing Max Hydration Cream while it’s on sale for just $27.
