Sanctuary Cows' Love for Their New 'Scratcher' Is a Sight to Behold

If you're a pet owner, you know there are countless ways to help an animal feel like their best self. From encouraging words to a special gift (or even just a cuddle!) there's no wrong way to go! Every animal has their own likes and dislikes, after all, so what helps one pet feel like a queen might leave another animal completely unfazed. Fortunately, living with an animal gives an owner plenty of time to figure out the best ways to pamper their four-legged friends.

For the beloved cows at the Gentle Barn's Missouri location, a new scratching post was just what they needed. These rescued cows watched from afar as their owner put together the DIY 'scratcher' on November 27, then they gave it a thorough test run. Safe to say--it passed with flying colors!

OMG--what happy cows! The St. Louis Six, as this group of bovines is called, weren't hesitant to explore their new toy, and that just goes to show how loved these rescued cows are. They have no reason to be afraid of something new!

It's not exactly new information that cows love to scratch an itch, but farmers and ranchers are getting more an more creative with the ways they help their cows accomplish that. Some have invested in large scratching posts that look like the gigantic rollers in the car wash, but that needs to be installed indoors. These rescue animals are much more comfortable out in the pasture, and the DIY cow scratching post seemed to hit the spot anyways! If it isn't broke, don't fix it, right?

Several commenters gave the animal sanctuary workers kudos for both their cleverness and generosity when it comes to caring for their animals. The Gentle Barn is a well-known non-profit animal rescue with three sanctuaries across the US. They're located in California, Missouri, and Tennessee, but fans can catch up on the rescue animals anytime on TikTok.
