SAISD school’s lounge gets makeover thanks to sweepstakes

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The teachers of Crockett Elementary were surprised with a remodeled teacher’s lounge after their school was selected as a winner of a nationwide sweepstakes held by Walmart and Crayola.

The lounge was unveiled to several Crockett Elementary unknowing teachers and staff on April 24, including Tara Moore, the third-grade teacher who entered the school into the sweepstakes. The revamped lounge was decorated using $3,000 provided by Crayola and $1,000 provided by Walmart.

“We appreciate everything our teachers do for our students,” Sherry Luce, store manager at Walmart 7281 in San Angelo, said. “We know they use their own resources in many cases. It was wonderful to be able to give back to them.”

The elementary was one of 12 schools selected from across the country as part of Crayola Creativity Week’s Creative Teachers Sweepstakes, which gave the winners the chance to select a “design board” offered in collaboration with classroom decoration business Schoolgirl Style. Once selected, the design board would be used as a template for remodeling the winning schools’ lounges.

The final product saw the Crockett Elementary lounge overhauled with several new elements, including fresh paint, floral wallpaper, new furniture and multiple decorations.

“It’s breathtaking,” Moore said. “Every time I step into the room, I just gasp. I’m just so thankful for the opportunity, and I know our teachers are going to love it!”
