YB Loves: The Only Dry Shampoo You Will Ever Need

When I was a kid, I hated washing my hair and I did the deed as infrequently as possible. It was gross. Let’s end it at that. Now that I’m older and I’ve become accustomed to a daily workout routine, I’ve grown to love the ritual of showering — sometimes I’d even shower twice a day! So, it was a dismaying surprise when my colorist, Lucille Javier at Sally Hershberger Downtown, told me that washing my hair every day was actually bad for me — especially because I already have dry, straw-like hair. What’s a girl with nearby co-workers and friends and a roommate and the occasional Tinder date to do?
The obvious answer is dry shampoo — but most dry shampoos, which consist of oil-absorbing powder, build up over time. The biotech scientists behind Living Proof, however, just developed their Perfect Hair Day (PhD) Dry Shampoo ($22), and it’s the first one on the market to not only absorb oil, but also remove sweat, oil, and odor. Basically, you spray it in as you normally do for dry shampoo. Then, you wait approximately 30 seconds for the powder to work its magic. Afterwards, you run your fingers through your hair (or brush it out with a comb), literally shaking out the powder. The scientists also developed a time-release fragrance in the spray that delivers a clean, freshly-washed scent throughout the day.
Does this product sound too good to be true? I know — I was skeptical, too. You can’t shower without water! But I tested this product at a SoulCycle spinning class about a month ago, and after marinating in my own sweat for 45 minutes, I doused myself with the new dry shampoo. I had a Tinder date after that — and no, he didn’t suspect a thing. I just used up my first bottle this morning, but this is the case of a life-changing beauty product that should have been invented years ago.
