'Run, don't walk!': Top 5 ice cream shops in the Brockton area, according to Yelp

Nothing beats a cool sweet treat on a hot spring or summer day. Now that the weather is warming, seasonal ice-cream stands have begun to open their doors to the public.

Many ice cream shops in the Brockton area offer something unique — from homemade waffle cones at Ashland Farm Dairy, hundreds of flavors at Daddy’s Dairy, farm to table ice cream at Hornstra Farms, vintage candy-store vibes at Skinners Sugar House to decadent sundaes at Tom and Jimmy’s.

While each of these shops offers a different experience, they all have one thing in common - delicious ice cream. Customers on Yelp have rated these stores as the top five places to get ice cream in the Brockton area this spring.

Ashland Farm Dairy (East Bridgewater)

Ashland Farm Dairy offers delicious homemade ice cream at their stand in East Bridgewater (680 Plymouth St.), but they’re especially loved for their homemade waffle cones. During the spring, the stand is open from Monday thru Thursday, 2 to 8 p.m., Friday, 2 to 9 p.m., Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

“The best part was the waffle cone! I love waffle cones, and they make them homemade. The texture and flavor was great and finished off the package nicely,” one reviewer wrote on Yelp. “You can get the waffle cone chocolate dipped if you want!”

Daddy’s Dairy (Brockton, Randolph, Stoughton)

At Daddy’s Dairy, you can try hundreds of combinations of regular and soft serve ice cream flavors. With 200 flavors of soft serve (try almond joy, cinnamon toast, crème brulé and fruity pebble), and 80 flavors of regular ice cream (try apple pie, banana pudding, bourbon Pecan Pie and Cannoli) ice cream lovers can go every day this summer and still not get through their entire menu. Lactose-free ice cream and frozen yogurt, no sugar ice cream and vegan ice cream are also available for those with dietary restrictions.

Visit Daddy’s Dairy year round from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Brockton (1280 Belmont St.) and Stoughton (987 Central St.) and from April to Sept. in Randolph (549 North Main St.)

Hornstra Farms (Whitman)

What’s better than homemade ice cream made with farm fresh milk? For over 100 years, Hornstra Farms has been offering farm fresh dairy products from their own pasture-raised cows in Norwell. The farm store’s ice cream bar is open in Whitman (60 Bedford St.) from noon to 8 p.m. daily. The Norwell location, at 246 Prospect St., is open noon to 6 p.m. daily.

“The store staff couldn't be friendlier, and the shelves are stocked with fresh milk all kinds (chocolate AND strawberry too), half and half, eggnog, quarts of ice cream and huge loaves of cinnamon raisin bread great for French Toast. Run, don't walk!” one reviewer wrote on Yelp.

Skinners Sugar House (East Bridgewater)

Since 1916, Skinners Sugar House has been serving up homemade chocolate, roasted nuts, fudge and ice-cream for more than 100 years. Located in East Bridgewater (25 Union St.), this sweet shop is open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Tom and Jimmy’s (West Bridgewater, Taunton, Middleboro)

“From two to three scoop banana splits to milkshakes to pints to take home and more, Tom and Jimmy’s is the place to go for all of your ice cream needs!!” one enthusiastic reviewer wrote of this popular ice-cream stand on Yelp.

With locations open year-round in Middleboro (109 West Grove St.) and Taunton (337 Winthrop St.), as well as seasonally from Feb. to Oct. in West Bridgewater (235 North Main St.) customers can enjoy decadent sundaes during any season from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Fan favorite sundae flavors include the s’mores sundae (s’mores ice cream, hot fudge, marshmallow, graham crackers) and the ‘T-Hoye’ sundae (peanut butter ice cream, peanut butter, hot fudge, Reese’s pieces or Reese’s peanut butter cups).
