Rooney Mara Debuts Baby Bump on the Red Carpet, Expecting 2nd Child With Fiancé Joaquin Phoenix

Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix appear to have a new baby on the way!

The actress arrived at the premiere of her new film La Cocina in Berlin, Germany, on Friday, Feb. 16, with a new accessory—as the showcase of her red carpet look was her new baby bump! The star seemed to show off the reported baby belly, cradling it while posing in a stunning strapless black gown.

Mara's fiancé Phoenix was not on the red carpet beside her at the La Cocina premiere, with the actress instead smiling and taking photos with her fellow cast members at the film event.

The two actors, who first met on the set of the 2013 film Her and made their public debut as a couple in 2017, already share a son named River, born in 2020 and named after Phoenix's older brother, who died at age 23 in 1993.

The news of River's birth was first confirmed by director Victor Kossakovsky, who helmed the film Gunda, which Phoenix executive produced. Kossakovsky was at a Zurich Film Festival screening of his film in 2020 when he told the audience that Phoenix had a "beautiful son called River."

Mara and Phoenix got engaged in 2019 after a few years of dating. The couple is quite private and rarely comments on the relationship in public—although they attend major Hollywood events, such as in 2020 when Phoenix won a slew of awards for his role in the film Joker.

Following an interview with Italian magazine BestMovie, via Hello!, in which Phoenix called Mara his "wife," there have been rumors they secretly married. However, the couple never confirmed the rumors one way or another.
