Riverside yoga to help leukemia research in Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Yoga enthusiasts are invited to take part in a guided yoga session by the San Joaquin River while raising funds against leukemia and lymphoma.

The “Yoga by the River” event on Sunday, April 28, is organized by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Nominee for Visionary of the Year Fresno Alex Cetti and Gypsy Bean Yoga Owner Sabrina Plata.

Plata says when she was approached to help organize the event she was excited about the opportunity to lend her practice to a good cause.

Plata says that yoga may not be the first thing people think of when it considering leukemia and lymphoma, but she believes the release of stress is an overlooked holistic approach anyone can benefit from.

“We let stress weigh us down and that affects our physical health,” Plata says, “no matter what you’re going through, mindfulness and movement can benefit your life.”

Plata says from her own experience she knows how stressful it can be to have family members who are affected by either disease and how yoga can help relieve that stress as well.

Anyone interested in joining the event can sign up through Plata’s link or attendees can buy tickets at the door.

The event will feature guided yoga, relaxing sound baths, a raffle, and a keynote speaker on behalf of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and costs $50 for entry. All proceeds will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
