Rider's Foot Impaled By Tree Root During Qualifying

Hattie Harnden had quite the weekend at the first stop of the British National Downhill Series. The third place EDR overall finisher went from being a heavy favorite in the particularly wet, sloppy, British race to the hospital in one qualifying run.

Swipe through the photos below to see why but beware, it is a bit graphic.

She must have caught that root at just the wrong angle or have been going Mach 5 to do that much damage to her foot in one blow. Also, how tough is she that she didn't even notice anything was wrong until she got down to the bottom of the track?

This whole weekend in Rheola seemed like a mess. If you saw any clips of the track then you can corroborate that this race was perhaps as messy as it gets. So much so that they ended up calling it before the finals giving the 2023 World Champ, Charlie Hatton, and Phoebe Gale the wins by their seeding runs.

As the boys at Sleeper Co said, British downhill is, in fact, alive and well. Cheers to all who raced in those particularly abysmal conditions and we wish the best to Hattie in her recovery.
