Restaurant review: Enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner on oceanfront boardwalk with parking

Having spent many years in Ocean City, New Jersey, we were accustomed to having an early morning walk on the boardwalk as we watched the sun rise over the ocean, turning the waves into golden gems of light. Once the exercise requirement was completed, we would tuck into a little restaurant for a hardy breakfast.

We love being able to continue that tradition here in Vero Beach at the Seaside Grill in Jaycee Beach Park, right on the boardwalk.

Out of commission for a while during a change of ownership and a lengthy upgrade to the facilities, Seaside Grill is now an ideal spot for a yummy breakfast, lunch or dinner. Dining inside, you are treated to a charming little dining room featuring lots of windows, sunlight and beautiful blues. Seated outside on the patio, we enjoyed the sea breeze and the sounds of kids and grownups picnicking in the park and frolicking on the beach.

At the Seaside Grill in Vero Beach, the amazing Philly cheesesteak eggrolls are tender, juicy chopped steak and melted mozzarella cheese inside and a crispy, tender wrapper on the outside, dressed with dabbles of honey mustard and spicy sweet chili sauce.

I will never forget that it was at Seaside Grill where I made a miraculous discovery: Philly cheesesteak eggrolls ($13). They are nothing short of magical! You may say, Philly cheesesteak and eggrolls together? Does not compute.

I thought the same before biting into them. Now I’m a believer. Tender, juicy, chopped steak and melted mozzarella cheese inside and a crispy, tender wrapper on the outside, dressed with dabbles of honey mustard and spicy sweet chili sauce makes a delicious appetizer. Just save some for me.

Also ordered from the lunch/dinner menu and greatly enjoyed was a scrumptious watermelon avocado salad ($15) with baby mixed greens, feta cheese and cucumber dressed in a honey lime vinaigrette.

My husband devoured the sliced steak sandwich ($24), which many would call a French dip. Beaucoup slices of Angus ribeye steak and Provolone cheese were served on a ciabatta bun with creamy horseradish and a ramekin of flavorful au jus for dipping. With that, he had a generous serving of top-notch garlic Parmesan French fries ($2).

Oui, oui, tres bien!

I applaud Seaside Grill for the excellent execution of its menu of starters, tacos, salads and sandwiches. My gentle suggestion is the addition of some vegetarian options for lunch and dinner besides salads, flatbreads and grilled cheese. The feedback I receive from vegetarian readers indicates to me there are many who abide by a meatless, no seafood diet.

Breakfast is served until 11 a.m. Monday through Saturday, and until noon on Sunday. I would caution against arriving at the top of the changeover hour from breakfast to lunch as it is my experience that it takes a good 15 minutes for the kitchen to transition.

Breakfast is said to be the most important meal of the day and options at Seaside Grill are plentiful for meat eaters and vegetarians alike. There seems to be something for everyone.

If background noise is difficult for you, as it is for many of my valued readers, stay clear of the covered part of the patio. The covering seems to trap all the conversation.

I am happy to report that parking is easy-peasy with two lots and on-street spaces.
