Marie Osmond is a mom to eight children, and she's made it clear that motherhood is an incredibly important part of her life.

In recent years, the Donny & Marie star has also been open about a parenting decision that seems to have surprised some fans: She doesn't plan to leave any money to her children when she dies. She shared the news with Us Weekly in January 2023. "Honestly, why would you enable your child to not try to be something?" she said. "I don’t know anybody who becomes anything if they’re just handed money."

The "Meet Me in Montana" singer added, "To me, the greatest gift you can give your child is a passion to search out who they are inside and to work...I just think all [an inheritance] does is breed laziness and entitlement. I worked hard and I’m gonna spend it all and have fun with my husband."

Here's what we know about Marie Osmond's eight kids, one of whom died tragically in 2009.

How many kids does Marie Osmond have?

Osmond is mom to eight children: Stephen, Jessica, Rachael, Michael, Brandon, Brianna, Matthew and Abigail.

Who are the fathers of Marie Osmond's kids?

Osmond and her first husband, Stephen Craig Sr., had one child together. She and her second husband, Brian Blosil, share seven kids.

Stephen Craig Sr.

Osmond and Craig married in 1982 and welcomed their son, Stephen Jr., a year later. They divorced in 1985, but rekindled their romance and remarried in 2011, four years after Osmond divorced her second husband (and the father of her seven other children), Brian Blosil.

In 2019, Osmond told People that reuniting with her first husband was very special. "The thing about a second marriage is that you realize things you thought were so important, aren't," she said. "I love being with my husband. He is the sweetest man I know. He lives to serve and really listens to people's needs."

Brian Blosil

Osmond and Blosil got married in 1986 and welcomed seven children together over the years. However, the pair divorced in 2007 and Osmond admitted that the marriage wasn't as good as people might have assumed.

While speaking on the "Master Podcasters Club," Osmond said, "I just went, ‘I can’t do this anymore.' And my children came to me and said, ‘Mom, please leave. We gotta get out of here.'"

"It was probably one of the most freeing things that ever happened to me," she continued. "Because I realized this home I had created was a facade to a marriage that wasn’t happy for 20 years. I really believe it was God—they say, ‘The burning within.’ So sometimes these things happen to wake us up."

Osmond and her second husband adopted Michael when he was still an infant. Tragically, Michael died by suicide in 2010 when he was 18 years old. He had previously entered a treatment facility in 2007, and was open about his lifelong struggle with depression.

Osmond issued a short statement at the time of Michael's death that read, "My family and I are devastated and in deep shock by the tragic loss of our dear Michael and ask that everyone respect our privacy during this difficult time."

The singer later spoke to Oprah about her son's death. "I’ve been through some tough things in my life, Oprah," she said. "This is probably the hardest that I’ve been through. I think there are always what-ifs. … I think if you live in what-ifs, you stop living."

She also addressed rumors about her son's sexuality. "My son was not gay. He wanted to be married and have a family and travel all over the world," she said. "And it wouldn’t matter if he was. I have a daughter who is gay, and it was my daughter who was offended by it, like, ‘What? All gay kids commit suicide?’ She really wanted it cleared up."

Brandon Warren Blosil (b. Nov. 24, 1996)

Brandon was also adopted by Osmond and her second husband as an infant. Although he's a member of the metal band Navarre, he largely stays out of the spotlight.

In November 2020, Osmond shared a rare photo of Brandon in honor of his birthday. She captioned it, "🎈🎂 #HappyBirthday to our incredible son Brandon. I love you sooooo much honey and so proud of how hard you work and the good man you are!!!! There is not a kinder soul on this planet, and I am so blessed to be your mama ♥️👈🤗🥳🎉""

Osmond welcomed her son Matthew in 1999. Matthew is very active in his faith, having grown up in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints along with his siblings. In 2020, Osmond shared that her son had spent two years serving on a mission trip. Shortly after, he left for college.

In a lengthy post on Facebook, Osmond wrote in part, "I have to admit, it was not the easiest thing taking you right off to college after being gone for two years. Two days of you being home went by way too quickly. But that third day, driving you to college and listening to your stories, will always be one of those special moments between a mother and her son. I respect so much that you want to continue to build on the momentum from your mission. Your enthusiasm makes me want to be a better person. I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for you!"

Abigail Michelle Blosil (b. Sept. 5, 2002)

Abigail was also adopted by Osmond and her second husband. It seems that she might be interested in pursuing a career in the music industry, if a video that Osmond posted on Instagram in 2019 is any indication.

Osmond wrote, "I went to my daughter Abby’s school performance last night. ♥️ She sang so beautifully, it made me tear up! Here’s a tiny snippet of it, I would’ve shown more of her singing but I was so blown away listening to her and my camera drifted off to the corner of the stage 🤣😂🤣 #BeautifulVoice #ProudMama."
