The entertainer remembers being called an 'embarrassment' to the family over her weight.

Marie Osmond is looking back on a time in her life when she was made to feel ashamed about her body weight.

The entertainer recently opened up to Page Six about her days filming for Donny & Marie, during which she claims she was body shamed by one of the show's producers.

"It was on that lot that I was taken out to the back by some head of the studio–and I'm like 5'5" and about 103 pounds—and he basically said, 'You're an embarrassment to your family. You're fat,'" she recalled.

Just a teenager at the time, Marie starred alongside her older brother Donny Osmond on the popular variety show that ran from 1976 to 1979.

Marie, now 63, remembered being told that "250 people were going to lose their jobs because you can't keep food out of your fat face."

The body shaming caused her to spiral into a cycle of extreme dieting and dangerous weight loss, which she said "became a real deal to her." She eventually became aware of the impact of negative body image, and recognized the effects it had on her after she "got down to like 92 pounds."

"I was in the dressing room, bending over putting on my pantyhose, and there was a girl in there changing who was just an emaciated skeleton with skin on her," she recalled. "And I just thought, 'Oh my gosh, that's so sick,' and I stood up and realized that girl was me."

She continued, "It was just one of those big 'AHA' [moments], that, 'Oh, body dysmorphia is a real thing."

Fortunately, Marie says she was one of the lucky child performers in Hollywood at the time, as her parents, Olive and George Osmond, helped support her during the difficult time.

"When you're so busy doing and trying to please people as a child celebrity, you kind of put yourself last," she explained. "And so, there's a lot of things you learn. A lot of children, a lot of celebrities don't make it through for that very reason. You know, they're told what they want you to hear. You don't hear the truth all the time."

"But I believe the family I grew up in, my parents especially, were just amazing people. And that really helped me walk through some of those really tough years," she added.

Marie has since been very vocal about her weight loss journey, and has even partnered with Nutrisystem over the years to help her maintain a healthy lifestyle that she's proud of.

“You have to have a healthy body to live your life,” she stated. “I kind of aspire to a higher rule, [which] is find where your flaws are and fix it. You know, be the best you can possibly be, not just be happy where you are you.”
