Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, and Queen Elizabeth II in 1990.

Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, revealed the final conversation she ever had with Queen Elizabeth II before the monarch's death in September 2022.

"It's the last thing that the Queen said to me: 'Just be yourself, Sarah,'" Ferguson, 63, said on her Tea Talks with the Duchess and Sarah podcast.

Ferguson, who goes by "Fergie," said the theme was one she commonly discussed with the late Queen.

"She saw it. She just got so annoyed when I wasn’t being myself," Fergie said. "And that's probably when I got into all the pickles. But now I am myself, and I'm just so lucky to be able to be myself."

Those "pickles" included being photographed with her "financial advisor" sucking on her toes, going into millions of dollars of debt, accepting $24,000 from convicted sexual predator Jeffrey Epstein, being caught on a recording accepting money in exchange for access to her estranged husband Prince Andrew (and later saying she was drunk when it happened), reportedly playing a role in Prince Andrew's defense against allegations of sexually abusing a minor and more.

Fergie previously admitted that ironically, though Queen Elizabeth encouraged her to be herself, she feels much more comfortable doing so now that the Queen is gone.

"I don't know whether it's the Queen passing that makes me think I can now openly say what I want to say without worrying I'm going to offend somebody," she revealed on Good Morning America in March 2023. "I'm really, truly authentic Sarah now."

Though Fergie and Andrew still live together and remain close, the Duchess of York is still somewhat removed from the royal family, which offers her some freedom to be her most Fergalicious self: She wasn't invited to King Charles' coronation in May 2023, and instead stayed home to care for the late Queen's beloved corgis.
