Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson Shares Health Update After Surgery

Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, is on the mend after undergoing surgery to treat a recent breast cancer diagnosis.

A spokesperson for the royal shared the news with British publication Sky News, revealing that the 63-year-old's cancer was caught early during a routine mammogram, where health professionals "advised she needed to undergo surgery," though further details about the diagnosis were not provided.

According to the spokesperson, that procedure "has taken place successfully," and doctors have given her a positive prognosis in the aftermath.

Earlier today, she reportedly departed the private King Edward VII's Hospital in London, where members of the Royal Family have been treated for decades, and has since returned home to Windsor, where "she is now recuperating with her family."

The spokesperson added, "The duchess wants to express her immense gratitude to all the medical staff who have supported her in recent days. She is also hugely thankful to the staff involved in the mammogram which identified her illness, which was otherwise symptom-free, and believes her experience underlines the importance of regular screening."

At this time, it's unclear what kind of breast cancer she had, and whether or not the surgery completely cleared it out or if she will need further treatment, such as chemotherapy or radiation, in order to achieve remission.

Prior to heading into the hospital for her procedure, the Duchess recorded a new episode of her podcast, Tea Talks, in which she opens up about the diagnosis. It'll be available to stream tomorrow, June 26.
