Queen Camilla Takes Military Inspiration for Latest Royal Event and Wears Brooch From Queen Elizabeth II’s Collection

Queen Camilla made a solo appearance on Monday, visiting The Royal Lancers Regiment in Catterick, England. The occasion marked the queen consort’s first visit to the Regiment since she was appointed as their colonel in chief. The occasion also carried sentimental value — the Queen’s late father, Major Bruce Shand MC & Bar, served with the 12th Lancers during World War II.

For the royal outing, Queen Camilla’s ensemble took inspiration from the Lancers Regiment. She fashioned a Fiona Clare dress modeled off the Lancers uniform, featuring chain mail embellishments on the shoulders, a red collar and gold buttons. She paired the frock with knee-high black suede boots by Russell & Bromley and fashioned a hat by Philip Treacy.

Queen Camilla’s ensemble also featured a rather significant accessory. The queen consort wore Queen Elizabeth II’s regimental brooch, featuring the skull and crossbones symbol. The piece comes from the late monarch’s own collection. This isn’t the first time Queen Camilla has paid homage to the long-reigning monarch by wearing pieces of her jewelry.

Queen Camilla wore Queen Elizabeth II’s Cartier sapphire and diamond flower brooches, which adorned the collar of her coat, while standing in for King Charles III during the Royal Maundy Service on March 28. For the recent New Year’s Eve service at Sandringham, Queen Camilla wore an aquamarine bar brooch that also belonged to the late queen.

King Charles was — and still is — undergoing treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer.

Making such gestures to the longest reigning monarch has become an essential part of Queen Camilla’s royal wardrobe. While she does indeed enjoy fashioning staple pieces by Fiona Clare, the small homages made to Queen Elizabeth II by way of her jewelry make the queen consort’s ensembles more sentimental. With her appearance at the The Royal Lancers Regiment in Catterick, England, Queen Camilla took inspiration from the occasion and paid sartorial homage to Queen Elizabeth II in seamless fashion.
