Purses for hope outreach brings joy for Mother's Day | Rosalind Tompkins

I received an email from a dear sister named Melanie asking if she could donate purses to Mothers In Crisis to give to moms for Mother’s Day.

She stated that she wanted, “To take something I accumulated during a time in my life where I couldn’t see the hope for tomorrow or the blessings in my life” and give them to “mothers that are struggling, have overcome trials and tribulations, or who are simply doing their best from day to day to put their children’s needs and wants above their own.”

As a purse lover, she had collected several high-end beautiful purses that she wanted to bless others with.

I immediately connected with the sentiment because I have always loved purses and getting a new purse always brings me hope. Maybe because my mother liked nice purses. They didn’t have to be designer purses, but they had to match her shoes. She had different purses for different outfits, and different occasions and they all matched perfectly.

My mother was one to hold tightly to her purse at all times. She never stored it on the floor and if I put my purse on the floor, she admonished me to pick it up and put it elsewhere. Even in church she always took her purse with her during offering, and altar calls. She frequently cautioned me to keep one eye open during prayer to keep an eye on my purse.

I spoke with my team about the donated purses, and everyone thought it was a wonderful idea so we started reaching out to various mothers and grandmothers who we believed would appreciate receiving a new purse.

I had no idea the impact that it would have on many of the women who literally cried because they were so blessed. One of the ladies said that she will keep her purse forever and never give it away.
