Pridefest returning to downtown Danville this June

DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — The Vermilion County Pride Coalition is bringing back Pridefest for its second ever event.

The free event will be on June 1 at Danville’s Temple Plaza starting at 1 p.m. It will feature speakers from Vermilion County, vendors, a pet parade, a diaper drive, a performance from DLO Musical Theatre and music from DJ Silkee. Proceeds from the pet parade will go to the Vermilion County Humane Society and diaper donations will go to Crosspoint at the Y.

In addition to all this, Pridefest is bringing in a Pride scavenger hunt and Drag King/Queen story hour.

More than 1,000 attendees participated in last year’s Pridefest, and organizers hope to double the numbers for the 2024 encore. The event is even expanding from North Street into Vermilion Street in anticipation.

A Pridefest After Party will cap off the event at 8 p.m. It will include live music from Champaign band New Souls, karaoke and the crowning of the 2024 Pride King, Queen, or “Themporer.”

The VC Pride Coalition said this is a family-friendly event that is open to all.
