This Pottery Barn Bed Survived Three Moves and Is Still One of My Most Complimented Pieces

When I first moved out of my childhood home seven years ago, I didn’t have any furniture to my name. The bedroom set I had at the time was dated, clunky, and beyond hard to move, so allowed me to do something I had been wanting to do for a while: invest in some quality furniture. While I know it’s somewhat of a tradition when you first move out to pick up the cheapest bed frame and run with it, I had been saving up for a while so that when I did move out, I could fill my new space with pieces that could grow and move with me.

When you think of high-quality furniture, there are many retailers that likely come to mind, but the first one for me is Pottery Barn. Now, I’ll be completely honest — I did not think I was going to find a Pottery Barn bed that I liked that was also within my budget. However, after a quick scroll, I came across the Astoria Platform Bed — and this beauty’s been with me ever since.

Design Features That Stand Out

When I first came across this bed, I was immediately taken by its gorgeous color. Made of solid mango wood, I gravitated towards the Rosedale Brown color, a hue that I would describe as a warm taupe and thus, one that would be easy to work into most spaces. Then there’s the distressed finish. I love the look of vintage, weathered furniture, and this bed exudes just that. But perhaps the design element that struck me the most was its legs. The carved turned legs of this bed not only add a bit of romanticism to the design, but they act as a nice contrast to the clean, sharp lines of the rest of the frame, for a look I (and everyone who’s seen it) couldn’t help but fawn over.

How It Performed

Delivery of this bed was seamless. After setting up a time with Pottery Barn’s delivery company, everything was brought into my bedroom and assembled in 20 minutes, maybe even less. I made sure to take notice of how it was assembled for future moves and was impressed at how simple it was: simply attach the four sides and center support leg together with screws, attach the legs, lay the wooden slats in place (these are made of solid wood planks, not MDF), and drill to secure. This design would make it a breeze when it came to moving to my next two places, something I was beyond thankful for on both moving days. After it was put together, I simply laid my mattress down (no box spring required!!!), popped on my bedding (including my favorite bolster pillow), and I was set. Seven years later, it’s still solid, creak-less, and looks as great as the day it was delivered.

What We Loved

  • It holds up: This stylish piece has now made it to three apartments and will likely make it to the next few, too. Its solid construction means it’s made to last and it is doing just that. Plus, classic features like clean lines and turned legs never go out of style.

  • Each piece is unique: Because this bed is finished entirely by hand using a process that highlights the wood’s natural grain, the hue will vary slightly from piece to piece. I love having a piece of quality furniture that truly is my own special piece.

Good to Know

For $600 more, you can pick up the Astoria Storage Bed, which comes with a headboard equipped with cubbies for extra storage, a great pick for small spaces! It’s also important to note that with the purchase of this bed, you’ll receive White Glove Delivery and assembly in your room of choice.

Should You Buy the Astoria Platform Bed?

All in all, the Astoria Platform Bed is a stellar pick, but I would specifically recommend it if you’re looking for a bed that is:

  • Built to last and made of solid wood

  • Stylish but still comes in under $1000

  • Easy to move
