Portland’s King Farmers Market opens for the season

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Farmers markets are returning across the area and even the drizzle couldn’t keep the crowds away from King Farmers Market in Northeast Portland Sunday morning.

Typically arriving around the first week of May, it’s held at the Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School parking lot, just one block south of the Alberta Arts District.

The market hosts engaging kids activities and live musical guests on top of locally-grown produce from around 30 farmers and food artisans.

“When you shop at a farmers market you’re supporting our local growers, our local food system,” said Katy Kolker, Executive Director of Portland Farmers Market. “You are supporting the local economy because everyone who is selling here, all the money you invest in those products stays right in the community and it’s really beneficial for the environment to buy products that are produced locally.”

The market even hosts special events a few times a month, including tastings, recipe demonstrations, food-related workshops and more.

The King Farmers Market is open on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. until late November.
