Primal Groudon returns to Pokémon Go on March 23, 2024, as the star of another Raid Day. The Legendary from Hoenn will appear at Gyms between 2pm and 5pm local time that day. As part of this short event, players will be able to receive up to five free Raid Passes from spinning Gyms.

In addition, the chance of encountering a Shiny Groudon will be increased in this timeframe – to clarify: This is functionally equivalent to a Mega Raid, in which you won’t be able to outright catch the Mega Evolution you just fought. Instead, you’ll get a shot at the standard creature, in this case Groudon, and earn Primal Energy to transform one of your specimens into Primal Groudon.

Primal Groudon, of course, is a Ground- and Fire-type Pokémon, which opens up two avenues of attack. One is defeating it with its weapons and using Ground-type attacks, the other – more effective method – is using Water-type moves. Be careful, though: Groudon may have Solar Beam at its disposal, which could cause grave problems for your Water-type attackers.
