People Magazine Names Patrick Dempsey 2023's Sexiest Man Alive

Both women and men eagerly await the release of People magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive" issue every year. Photos of some of the most attractive men in Hollywood fill the magazine's pages and one man takes the crown as readers' choice for the sexiest man of the year.

For the 2023 issue, Grey's Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey has the honor of being the Sexiest Man Alive, following in the footsteps of Chris Evans, Paul Rudd, and Michael B. Jordan in recent years.

The big reveal happened on Jimmy Kimmel Live! as Kimmel asked various audience questions about his identity, such as his occupation, marital status, place of birth, and any recognizable tattoos. The crowd reacted with suspense upon hearing he was above the age of 50. Finally, one spectator asked if he was Dr. McDreamy, and he answered "yes."

At 57 years old, Dempsey is the second oldest man to ever receive the Sexiest Man Alive title, narrowly beating out Harrison Ford for his 1998 honor at age 56 and trailing Sean Connery's 1989 title at 59. Dempsey himself came out on stage with Kimmel to celebrate the achievement. In a post-reveal interview, Kimmel commended him for appearing on the iconic Men of the Year list throughout the years but never landing the Sexiest Man Alive title and cover until now.

"I'm just happy they made a decision and it was me this year," Dempsey said honestly. He had to keep the news under wraps when he learned he'd been chosen, but he embarked on quite the fitness and diet journey in the lead-up to the photo shoot. "I fasted and went to the gym," he said, noting he cut out all bread products and worked out in preparation.

Dempsey reflected on his journey to the magazine cover in an interview with People. "I’m glad it’s happening at this point in my life," he said. "It’s nice to have the recognition, and certainly my ego takes a little bump, but it gives me the platform to use it for something positive.”

Dempsey is in good company as just one of many sexy men featured in this year's issue. He's joined by the likes of Pedro Pascal, Jason Kelce, Lenny Kravitz, Timothée Chalamet, Usher, and Jamie Foxx.
