“People can let their creativity flow”: The Mulva Cultural Center introduces new interactive LEGO exhibit

DE PERE, Wis. (WFRV) – Bricktionary: The Interactive Exhibition is the ultimate LEGO brick experience, offering a fun-filled adventure for people of all ages.

Based in Australia and created by one of the world`s leading LEGO brick artists, the idea behind the exhibition was inspired by Ryan ‘Brickman’ McNaught’s bestselling book, ‘The Bricktionary: The Ultimate A-Z of LEGO.`

Marvin Wall, the President of the Mulva Cultural Center, said the Bricktionary exhibit brings something new and exciting to De Pere, which is what they have strived for since its opening in December of last year.

“We want to have a variety so we’ve had dinosaurs previously, now LEGO’s are coming through,” said Wall. “Some are more family-themed but all are different types of art and culture that we want to bring to De Pere.”

Simon Challenor is the Head of Global Exhibitions for Brickman, and he said Bricktionary includes more than 150 custom-built models created by Brickman and his team based on the letters of the alphabet, pushing the limits of what`s possible to create with LEGO bricks.

“There’s about 1.4 million bricks in the builds, some tiny but only have a few bricks in them, some massive like the Seattle space center you can see behind me which has 167 thousand bricks in it,” he said.

Challenor said the exhibition is the perfect combination of imagination and education, allowing all who visit it to marvel at unique LEGO brick creations, participate in hands-on building activities, and learn about LEGO building techniques like never before.

“The interactive side is really important to us so we have four interactive zones in here where people can let their creativity flow,” explained Challenor. “Plus, there’s a lot of education on the walls, there’s how to build, naming conventions, there’s all kinds of things to learn!”

When it comes to LEGO, there is nothing Klarissa Peters from De Pere likes to do more than let her creativity run wild.

“I think that you can just create whatever you want, beamed Peters. “You don’t have to stick to the packet that they give you in the box!”

Peters also told Local 5’s Samantha Petters that she’s never seen anything like the Bricktionary exhibit, and after getting her friend obsessed with LEGO building, she plans to spend a lot more time there until the display is gone.

“We went through all the letters and we tried to guess what all the things are on the insides and some of them are pretty easy but some of them, you kind of have to think outside the box,” explained Peters.

The exhibit will be on display through September 2, and tickets are available at the front desk of the Mulva Cultural Center, or online.
