The Penguin-1

The first trailer for Matt Reeves’ The Penguin, starring Colin Farrell as a near unrecognizable Oswald Cobblepot. The trailer continues to dazzle with its gritty, noir-inspired design for Gotham City, showing how crime in the city is continuing after the events of The Batman.

The trailer gives us a first look at former crime lord Salvator Maroni, played by Clancy Brown, in Reeves' universe. Maroni was teased throughout The Batman, where it was revealed that the GCPD used Carmine Falcone's information to lock him up. It'll be interesting to see Cobblepot meet Maroni as he climbs up the ranks of Gotham's underworld. We also get a few glimpses of Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone.

The Penguin will be a limited series set between The Batman and its sequel. Director Matt Reeves and Colin Farrel have confirmed that the show will lead into the events of the sequel, although fans will have to wait quite a bit to get to that.

The Batman 2, which currently has no official title, was supposed to be released in October next year. Plans for that have been pushed though, as the film has been delayed by a year into 2026. The delay, as per reports, is because of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. When asked about the film's status last year, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn said that he hadn't seen any update on the script from Reeves.

While Reeves continues to work on The Batman 2, the DC universe is getting a major reboot with the animated show Creature Commandos kicking things off later this year. Following that, James Gunn's Superman will fly into theaters on July 11, 2025, starting a new era for DC.
